Voltera CEO Krassen Dimitrov participates in Green Transition Forum 6.0 in Sofia

We are proud to share that Krassen Dimitrov, CEO of Voltera-BG, Ltd, participated in Green Transition Forum 6.0 in Sofia as an invited speaker in a high-level discussion on the future of cleantech innovation and sustainable technologies in Southeast Europe. During the panel, Dr. Dimitrov presented Voltera's ColteraTREC technology, highlighting its potential to transform the trillion dollar cooling industry. Despite the current geopolitical challenges, the panel participants and leading innovators and investors from the region Dr. Krassen Dimitrov, Dr. Malgorzata Bugajska, Borislav Kostadinov, Dániel Gockler, Ioanna Mincheva, Max Gurvits, Suzana Carp were unanimously optimistic about the future of cleantech innovation in Southeast Europe. The discussion emphasized the region's growing capacity to develop and deploy breakthrough technologies that support the green transition.

ColteraTREC project meeting (26–27 March 2026) in Hanover

March 26th and 27th, 2026 | Hanover, Germany

Hosted by Leibniz Universität Hannover, partners came together to review progress from the first project period, align on management and dissemination activities, and dive into technical discussions across key work packages.

Over the two days, the consortium exchanged updates and perspectives on:

🔹 project coordination, reporting, and review preparation
🔹 communication, dissemination, and portfolio activities
🔹 system layout, operational design, and KPIs
🔹 applications and life cycle assessment (LCA)
🔹 heat exchanger development

The meeting also included focused bilateral discussions providing valuable insights into ongoing research and development.

A big thank you to our hosts at LUH and to all project partners Technische Universität Clausthal, University of West Attica, Dias Media Group, and Voltera-BG, Ltd for the open discussions, strong collaboration, and shared commitment to advancing innovative electrical energy storage solutions.

ColteraTREC Participates in the EIC Clean & Efficient Cooling Annual Portfolio Meeting

We are pleased to share that ColteraTREC took part in the EIC Clean and Efficient Cooling Annual Portfolio Meeting on 19 November at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Our Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Krassen Dimitrov, presented the technology and business and use case in front of other founders and engineers.

The meeting stands as a key gathering of innovative projects funded by the European Innovation Council (EIC). This event brought together leading researchers, innovators, and technology developers working to advance breakthrough solutions for the future of clean and efficient cooling.

The meeting aimed to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and build strong synergies across the EIC community. Guided by the EIC, the event offered a dynamic platform to:

Exchange insights on cutting-edge research methodologies and project results
Identify opportunities for joint activities, shared resources, and cross-project innovation
Discuss strategies for market deployment, communication, and exploitation of project outcomes
Strengthen ties across Europe’s growing innovation ecosystem

Our project, ColteraTREC, was proud to present our vision, share progress, and engage in meaningful discussions with fellow EIC projects. The exchange of ideas and best practices was inspiring and reinforced our commitment to pushing forward innovative thermal energy recovery solutions.

ColteraTREC Kick-off Meeting in Sofia

November 3rd, 2025 | Sofia, Bulgaria

The ColteraTREC project officially launched with its Kick-off Meeting (KOM) held in Sofia, Bulgaria, on 17–18 October 2025, hosted by Voltera-BG, Ltd. The meeting brought together all consortium partners to establish a shared understanding of the project’s structure, goals, and planned activities.

Over the course of two days, partners engaged in in-depth discussions about the research methodology, system development, modeling approaches, sustainability assessments, and strategies for project dissemination. These conversations were crucial for aligning expectations, clarifying timelines, and identifying the interconnections between the various work packages that will drive the project forward.

The KOM also provided a valuable opportunity to outline the technical vision of ColteraTREC. The project aims to design, simulate, and model a hybrid energy system that combines an energy-harvesting module—capable of generating electricity from waste heat—with a heat pump module for active cooling of ambient air. The meeting served as a catalyst for the initial steps toward achieving these objectives, fostering collaboration and innovation among the partners.

We were pleased to welcome representatives from the European Innovation Council (EIC), who provided guidance on project obligations and highlighted potential synergies within the broader European innovation landscape. Their insights offered valuable perspective on how ColteraTREC can maximize impact and align with ongoing portfolio activities.

Smart Cooling Pouches

Thermally Regenerative Electrochemical Cooling Devices

ColteraTREC pouches are highly localized, direct-to-source cooling devices engineered for high-power density hardware.

Power conversion in high-density electronics inherently generates waste heat. Conventional system-wide thermal management architectures often lack the response time and precision required to mitigate localized thermal spikes, leading to performance degradation and premature component failure.

Utilizing solid-state Thermally Regenerative Electrochemical (TREC) technology, these compact pouches function as localized, fast-response heat sinks. Mounted directly to heat-generating components, they actively absorb thermal spikes. Concurrently, the electrochemical process generates a thermal voltage, converting a portion of the absorbed waste heat into harvestable electrical energy.

Space & Orbital Electronics

In orbit, the vacuum of space makes conventional convective air-cooling structurally unavailable. Thermal control must rely entirely on conduction, radiation, and engineered thermal paths. As satellites become smaller and electronically denser, they generate severe localized thermal hotspots that are exceptionally difficult to manage with system-level heat rejection alone. Furthermore, strict Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) constraints make bulky active cooling architectures unfeasible. Thermal control in space is not a comfort feature—it is a strict requirement for reliability and mission success. ColteraTREC pouches provide lightweight, direct-to-die electrochemical cooling that mitigates hotspots without the need for airflow. For spacecraft operators who pay a premium for performance, qualification, and lifetime extension, this solid-state thermal management represents a critical enabler for next-generation orbital hardware.

Data Centers & AI Compute

With the exponential scaling of AI compute density, rack thermal loads are pushing traditional HVAC infrastructure to its limits, often consuming up to 40% of a facility's total energy budget. ColteraTREC pouches integrate directly at the server blade or chip level to manage extreme temperature spikes. By neutralizing heat at the source, this technology reduces the peak specification requirements and reliance on facility-wide base load cooling infrastructure.

Electric Vehicle (EV) Powertrains

Thermal inefficiencies in EV batteries and drivetrains can severely throttle power output and reduce operational range. ColteraTREC pouches absorb localized heat spikes generated during rapid acceleration or high-load events, converting a portion of that thermal energy back into electricity. This targeted regulation prevents thermal throttling and mitigates cell degradation, ensuring sustained peak performance without overloading the primary fluid cooling loops.

Refrigerant-Free Thermal Management

ColteraTREC is a breakthrough cooling technology, which will radically change the way cooling is accomplished.

By eliminating the use of vapor-compression cycles, noxious refrigerants, and achieving energy efficiencies close to the theoretical maximum.

ColteraTREC systems are lightweight, built from low-cost materials, and do not rely on any critical raw materials.

The dual functionality of ColteraTREC can efficiently provide EV cabin comfort in any weather conditions, holds immense significance for the electric vehicle industry. Its ability to significantly reduce electricity consumption for AC ensures that more energy is dedicated to propulsion, extending the vehicle's range and further promoting its eco-friendliness.

А 3-stack configuration of ColteraTREC technology can be applied to data centers temperature management systems, where waste heat from the servers can be harvested for direct electricity generation, and heat-pump stacks can be used to condition the center temperature to its optimum.
